So as usual, when Raya is approaching, there will be lots of things to do at home. Baking and cleaning are those major ones that get my attention but at the same time there is constantly things to do. Just like painting my parent's bedroom ceiling, fixing the light bulb, giving my cats shower and the list can go on and on forever (dramatic mode). And being a perfectionist and OCD is not even helping me. A couple of times tension running high around the house (same drama every year). Sometime I question myself, Why do we have to go through all this trouble just to celebrate Raya? And there will be my mum telling/reminding me that the house have to look good for the guests. Every year I give in my mum demand. She is the commander in chief starting on eve of Raya to the 1st week of Raya.
This year is a bit special for my mum. Her birthday falls on the 1st day of Raya. She cooked up a storm and my sister and I automatically becomes the house maid. Mum usually cooked for guests but this time round, she make it a point to serve food during the 1st day of Raya. I could see that my mum was enjoying it. In the midst of the Raya chaos, I sneak out to buy her a birthday cake and surprise her with it.
On the second day, we were expecting more guests coming. We run errand in the morning and mum did her second cooking for the guest. At about 4pm, we sneak out to my aunt's place (about 1 bus stop away) for visiting. Her nasi briyani was 1 of the best. We hang around for while before we get back home to more guests coming.
Today is the 3rd day of raya and I am so glad that no plans is being made to either go visiting or having guests over. Finally, all of us get our well deserved rest.
Selamat Hari Raya everyone. May this Raya not be our last and may ties grew stronger.
