So this year, I told my mum that I want to celebrate Raya in the most non wasting manner. I want to spent as little as possible, get things only that is necessary, buy things with needs/means and etc. Believe it or not, my mum went along with my suggestion. This year, she did not 'over' ordered her kuihs, did not spent a lot on clothing/shoes and she really works within budget. I am so proud of her.
As for me, I did not get myself new baju kurung for Raya cause I have heaps of baju kurung and festive clothing that I wore only once. So I basically recycle all those baju kurung. I am the kind of person who doesn't mind about not having new baju kurung every year. And this year, I did not over buy my baking ingredients. I am so proud of myself that I did not spend too much money on this year Raya celebration.
It's not about how expensive your baju kurung is, how many types of kuih did you order/make or how much did you spend to beautify or change your car. It's more about the human touch this Raya. Personally I enjoy having guests that I like and I do spend my time by talking and catching up on each other life's and happenings. That is what I call bonding.
So just for this Raya season, you can start to put away your 'devil' gadgets and start to look people in their eyes to communicate, share stories and catch up.
